On 1st February 2017, UN Women Multi Country Office for India, Bhutan, Maldives and Sri Lanka on the topic of Human Trafficking issues in India. The meeting chaired by H.E. Per-Anders Sunesson, Ambassador of Sweden was organized by the UN women. The aim was providing an opportunity to learn and exchange key experiences, challenges and recommendations on India’s Anti-Human Trafficking efforts.
Representing India at the round table, representatives from several non-governmental organizations alongside STOP as well as representatives from the Indian Government alongside Officers at the secretarial level were also invited for the round table to discuss about the measures taken by the government fighting for the same cause. The officials gave a brief on the legal provisions and the measures taken shedding light on the effectiveness of the same.
The members in the meeting later had a brief discussion on the 2016 anti-trafficking bill wherein they talked about the problems identified, measures taken to ensure lesser crime rate, etc.
