On 31st January 2017, Center for Social Research organized a National consultation on PWDVA( The Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act was passed in 2005). The one day round table discussed The Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act passed on 2005.
The consultation focused on the overview of the budget allocation made, the legal provisions available and their practical implications in the present context. It was found that the Union Govt. budgetary allocation, implementation of the PWDVA Act remained untouched. Further, the allocation of funds to states is different. According to the Economic Survey of Ministry of Finance 2014, the enactment of PWDVA remains weak as 19 States have no planned schemes.
The representatives from STOP participated and shared their views and experiences on awareness program The group also emphasized on having stringent laws/training programs for efficient service and an effective rehabilitation program for the better implementation of PWDVA changing the vulnerability statistics in the women and reduce the number of domestic violence case registered.
