A two-day workshop on Strengthening Response to Combat Human Trafficking (Stakeholders Consultation) was held on 18–19 December 2025 at Ratna Hotel, Biratnagar, Morang District, Koshi Province, Nepal. The workshop was organized by the Government of Nepal, Ministry of Women, Children and Senior Citizens (MoWCSC) in collaboration with Maiti Nepal and Woord en Daad. The consultation aimed to strengthen cross-border coordination between Nepal and India for prevention, rescue, repatriation, legal cooperation, frontline capacity building, and institutional collaboration to address human trafficking affecting women and children.
The workshop commenced on 18 December 2025 with an opening session chaired by Ms. Laxmi Kumari Basnet, Secretary. Representatives from government ministries, law enforcement agencies, and civil society organizations from Nepal and India participated in discussions on trafficking trends, prevention strategies, victim protection, rescue and repatriation mechanisms, bilateral coordination, joint task forces, and technology-based tools.
STOP participated in the consultation as a civil society stakeholder and was represented by Ms. Poonam Choudhary, who contributed to discussions as a panellist on cross-border coordination, survivor protection, and community-level prevention and also received an award for the same. The consultation strengthened institutional linkages, identified operational gaps, and outlined practical, victim-centric action points for coordinated and sustainable cross-border responses to human trafficking between Nepal and India.
